The Oceanic Zeo FDXi regulator was the direct result of taking something that was already great and making it even better. Instead of a composite valve, the Zeo uses a metal valve made from chrome plated marine grade brass which improves cold water performance. The all metal valve actually encourages water vapour in our exhaled gas to condensate on the valve which helps to moisten the dry compressed gas when inhaling.
Air flow is controlled via a control knob and lever on the side of the second stage housing. The knob adjusts the inhalation resistance of the valve, allowing for a customised breathe. This is a dynamically adjusting valve though so unlike most second stages the Zeo will automatically maintain the same resistance level set regardless of depth, it will deliver the same performance at the surface as it will at depth without the need to constantly adjust the valve.
Venturi is controlled via the lever and directs air directly to the mouthpiece for maximum performance and venture assisted breathing or it will re-direct part of the air flow back towards the mouthpiece to cancel the venture effect and help force the valve shut quickly. The Zeo is paired with our inline FDXi first stage which uses an over balanced diaphragm design with environmental seal. The inline design offers a much more efficient flow of gas through the first stage by minimising the turns and corners that the gas must travel before entering the second stage hose. The result is a more responsive first stage with lower intermediate pressure drop during inhalation. The over balanced diaphragm delivers steadily increasing performance by using the ambient pressure to overcome the increasing external pressures and gas density.
The FDXi is environmentally sealed for better cold water performance and reduces the risk of contamination. The two stages are joined using a braided MaxFlex hose for a higher burst pressure and improved protection against UV damage. The hose is also fitted with a swivelling second stage connector for additional comfort and reduced jaw fatigue.
